Home of the three Great Pyramids which are said to mirror stars in the Orion constellation, as well as many other spectacular ancient architectural achievements, Egypt’s history is both richly recorded relative to other countries, and steeped in mystery as a result. It is the country most closely associated with the River Nile, no mean feat because at four thousand miles long it travels through ten other countries. Home to no-longer-extant ancient cities such as Memphis and Thebes, regarded as cherished by those interested in world heritage, today it claims the ten-million-strong Cairo as its capital—a city itself rich in culture and history, with its numerous museums and markets.
