The dormant volcano of Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s tallest mountain, looms over the cities
of Moshi, the gateway to Kilimanjaro National Park, and Arusha, Tanzania’s tourism
capital. Tanzania also features the world famous Serengeti National Park, and the
country’s nature and landscape is world renowned.
Tanzania is also home to a burgeoning modern economy, with its mining and agriculture
sectors both advanced and experienced. The precious stone Tanzanite is only found in
Simanjiro District of Manyara Region in Tanzania. This rare blue or violet gem is a variety
of the mineral zoisite.
In exotic Zanzibar, off the mainland’s coast, you can expect luxurious tourist resorts, but if
you simply choose to use public transport once you’ve landed at the airport, you can go
native to a certain extent rather than hiring a driver or a taxi service. This allows you to
really take in the local sights and sounds of this at times bustling and at times tranquil
island archipelago.
Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan has banned the use of the U.S. dollar and other foreign currencies for domestic transactions and the THE Bank of Tanzania (BoT) has urged people to report any instances where prices are set or payments are made in foreign currency to the authorities or relevant state organs for appropriate action to be taken against those responsible.
